Husband Bludgeons Wife to Death With Stone Near Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai, Arrested at Scene
A man allegedly murdered his wife by repeatedly attacking her with a large stone near Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai's Andheri West. The accused, who allegedly lived by begging with the deceased, was arrested at the scene. Police have registered a murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are investigating the motive behind the crime.
According to the police, the deceased woman and her accused husband survived by begging at a traffic signal in the Oshiwara area. On Tuesday at around 6:30 pm, both were allegedly under the influence of alcohol when a heated argument broke out between them over an undisclosed issue. As the dispute escalated, the accused picked up a large stone lying on the roadside and repeatedly attacked his wife, striking her on the head and neck with extreme brutality. The woman collapsed in a pool of blood and died at the scene.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Oshiwara Police Station immediately reached the spot. The injured woman was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. The accused husband was apprehended from the scene without delay.
Oshiwara Police have registered a case against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to murder. Preliminary investigation has revealed that both the accused and the deceased were intoxicated at the time of the incident and that the fatal assault followed an argument between the couple. Police are conducting a detailed interrogation of the accused and are investigating the exact motive behind the murder.
The incident has also raised questions about security arrangements in Mumbai, as the murder occurred barely 100 meters from the Oshiwara Police Station. Local residents condemned the incident, stating that the condition of people surviving through begging is extremely distressing and that alcohol addiction continues to destroy vulnerable lives. Social workers have also expressed concern, emphasizing the urgent need for effective de-addiction programmes and rehabilitation schemes for impoverished and helpless couples living on the streets.
